Get to know Ben Le Huray, Managing Director at The Little Green Energy Company. Ben was recently interviewed by the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce as part of our sponsorship of its People and Planet Award. Discover his journey, passion for renewable energy, and vision for a sustainable future in this seven question interview.
1. Who are you & what do you?
I’m Ben, the new Managing Director of The Little Green Energy Company.
I have the privilege of leading a team of passionate and skilled people who love what they do. We design and install renewable energy systems that help the planet and help the pocket. It’s a sweet synergy!
2. How long have you been doing what you do?
Not long – I joined Little Green in December 2023, and the first six months have been a whirlwind. I’ve been getting to know the team, seeing some of the great work we’ve delivered (including Guernsey’s largest solar PV sites: Guernsey Electricity, Guernsey Post and Grow), and exploring how else we can work with our stellar suppliers, Tesla and SunPower.
3. How did you get into this?
I‘ve been around buildings and technology since school days, narrowly avoiding an early entry into the sector post-engineering degree. 20 years on and 7 countries later, the Little Green opportunity felt just right.
My goal is to use the lessons I’ve learnt along the way to ramp up our activity and ensure Little Green plays its part in the Energy Partnership.
4. What’s the ‘why’ behind the work you?
We are a small business, yet we have an opportunity to make a big impact. The Electricity Strategy targets are ambitious and it’s going to require significant collaboration and courage to secure Guernsey’s energy future. So, working in this business, in this sector gives me more than enough ‘why’ to spring out of bed.
5. What’s your process for coming up with your solutions/offers?
We pride ourselves on being first to market. We installed the first large-scale solar PV system in Guernsey, the first Tesla Powerwall battery and the first EV fast-charger station. We’re fortunate to have some very forward-thinking clients who share our passion for adventure and exploration. They are constantly challenging us to think about the ‘what next’ in terms of renewables.
6. What book has shaped your life and why?
Easy – ‘The Biology of Belief’, by Bruce Lipton. The science did enough to convince me that our beliefs can genuinely influence the function of every cell in our bodies. It’s a profound and heady mix of human discovery and spirituality. Mind. Blown.
7. Tea, coffee or something a little stronger?
A cup of (little) green tea! (My PR account manager insisted I include this pun!)
We are proud sponsors of the inaugural People and Planet Business of the Year Award.
