Offshore Electronics harnesses solar energy
The (little) green idea
We recently collaborated with Offshore Electronics, a prominent Guernsey-based manufacturer of specialist technology and hardware, to deliver a solar energy system that enhances sustainability while cutting operational costs. With rising energy prices and a commitment to reducing their environmental impact, Offshore Electronics sought a reliable renewable energy solution that would meet the demands of its advanced manufacturing facility.
After a thorough consultation, we proposed and installed a 96-panel SunPower solar photovoltaic (PV) system, utilising around 20% of their 20,000 sq. ft. roof space. This system captures solar energy to generate electricity, providing a stable power source to support their production operations. The installation went live in March 2024, and from the very first day, the system has delivered significant savings and measurable environmental benefits.
The (big) impact
Since installation, Offshore Electronics has cut its energy costs substantially, with projected savings of £8,000 to £10,000 annually. The installation has also reduced the company’s dependence on traditional energy sources, offering greater protection against rising utility costs.
Beyond financial benefits, solar power has had a profound environmental impact. By reducing its reliance on grid electricity, Offshore Electronics is significantly reducing its carbon footprint and its dependency on the network. This step aligns with the company’s long-term sustainability goals and Guernsey’s broader commitment to a low-carbon future. Solar power is proving to be a valuable investment, helping the company meet its green objectives while contributing to a cleaner environment.
Jack Lucas, Purchasing Director at Offshore Electronics, said:
“Living on an island, we are very conscious of our power consumption. Installing a solar array was a no-brainer – especially with 20,000 square feet of roof space available. The system has already shown huge benefits in solar generation, and we’re confident it will continue to benefit us long-term. Little Green took charge of the project from start to finish, ensuring the installation was seamless. We’ll definitely partner with Little Green again – they’re experts at what they do.”
Post-installation, we continue to support Offshore Electronics by monitoring system performance and providing regular updates to ensure their solar PV system operates at maximum efficiency year-round. By tracking weather patterns and optimising performance, we help them achieve the best possible return on their investment.
